GP Solutions

 

The selection of quality solutions for patients is critical in having a satisfied contact lens patient.  Solution recommendations should NOT be an after thought, but an integral part of the contact lens fitting process.  One key component of clean lenses is proper cosmetic use.  Oily cosmetics are the number one problem with female patients.  Be sure to include cosmetic advice in your dispensing process.  Tyler’s Quarterly has an excellent section on cosmetics that do NOT deposit on contact lenses.

 

Our recommendations for GP lenses are:

  1. Menicare GP  – This cleaning system is very effective for keeping lenses clean and comfortable.  Most patients find Menicare GP easy to use and patient friendly. Menicare GP is recommended for RGP lenses especially made in "Menicon Z Material".

  2. Optimum by Lobob – Optimum is an excellent three-part system.  Their cleaner is highly effective and the storage solution is patient friendly. Each kit contains wetting solutions to be used with lens insertion and during the day if needed. Compatible with Menicon Z lenses.

  3. Unique pH.  Alcon has brought back the Unique pH RGP solution.  It is available from Alcon to be sold by practitioners.  It will NOT be in retail stores, but patients can buy it on-line at amazon.com or drugstore.com.  Safe to use on Menicon Z material

  4. Boston Simplus.  Simplus is safe to use on all GP materials including Menicon Z.

Boston cleaners – DO NOT USE Boston cleaners on Menicon Z lenses.  It is a good cleaner, but destroys the wetting surface of Menicon Z lenses.

 

*** PROGENT PROTEIN REMOVER*** 

Progent is an excellent protein-cleaning product for in office use. The cleaning only takes 10-15 minutes and completely cleans GP lenses.  Progent is a “NON mechanical Clean and Polish for all GP materials.  It is especially useful on Menicon Z lenses, which should NOT be mechanically cleaned.
