Fitting Guide:
Starting Point:
Start with a trial lens that is the average of the K readings or the Sym K.
Insertion:
It is important that no air bubbles get under the lens. To insure this does not happen, following the outlined procedures below.
1. Clean the lens before insertion with an approved GP solution.
2. Place the lens between your index finger and forefinger, concave side up.
3. Completely fill the lens with GP wetting solution.
4. Dip a fluorescein strip into wetting solution to shorten fitting time.
5. Position the patient so their face is parallel with the dispensing table or the floor.
6. Place the lens on the eye so that the wetting solution is still in the lens.
7. Allow lens to settle for 5-10 minutes before evaluation.
Evaluation:
1. The lens should position centrally. If the lens positions low, select a flatter base curve.
2. The lens should have minimal movement, about .5 mm.
3. The lens should have no conjunctival drag. Using the bio-microscope, look through the edge of the lens and focus on a blood vessel in the conjuctivia. If the blood vessel moves with the lens on blink, the base curve is too tight or the edge lift is inadequate. Choose a flatter base curve or an increased edge lift design.
4. Look for adequate edge lift. Increase or decrease the edge lift as required.
5. Get as aligned a fluorescein pattern as possible.
