FLAT/STEEP OPTION

The Problem: edge stand-off in one quadrant usually at 270º due to inferior steepening.

The Idea: Make one edge quadrant flatter or steeper than the others.

Always start with a 4 step spread.  If the standard edge lift is good every where but the 6 o’clock position, then you order a 4 steep at 270 degrees.

Order like this:  standard at 90 degrees, 4 steep at 270 degrees, with 1 D. prism at 270 degrees.

Example 2:  Too tight at 90 degrees and too loose at 270 degrees:  flatten the 90 and steepen the 270.

Order like this: 2 steps flat at 90 degrees, 2 steps steep at 270 degrees, with 1 D. prism at 270 degrees.

** You may have to end up with more or less than a 4 step spread, but this is the starting point.

Example 3:  Seal off at 3 o’clock but standard edge lift looks good everywhere else.

Order: Standard at 90 degrees, 4 steps flat at 270 degrees, with 1 D. prism at 180 degrees.  This will position the lens with the flat edge portion at 0 degrees or at 3 o’clock.
